Early Indoctrination

Saturday morning we got up bright and early and left for Austin for the day so that I could receive my CPA certificate at the swearing in ceremony that is hosted by the state board. The boys were very good in the car and we actually made it to the ceremony ahead of schedule (a rare feat for the Moore family). The CPA candidates were seated in a reserved section so I had to sit by myself. I didn't want Douglas to have to have to deal with both boys -- particularly because I knew Andrew was going to be a handful (he doesn't do well in situations that require him to sit still or be quiet). So, Douglas and Andrew hung out at the back of the auditorium with the other parents with children that didn't want to sit still and I took Tyler to the candidates section. He was very charming and immediately won over all of the other CPAs I was sitting with by blowing raspberries and smiling and cooing left and right. After a while Tyler started getting restless and I didn't want to bother the other candidates so I took the opportunity to join Douglas and Andrew in between speakers.

I actually took my oath of office with Andrew on one hip and Tyler on the other - it is a great memory and I am so happy that I was able to share it with my family. After taking the oath of office I rejoined the other CPAs to receive my certificate. I walked across the stage, received my certificate, shook hands with several board members and that was that.

After the ceremony we changed clothes before heading to our next stop. While we were changing Andrew in the back of my car he noticed that there was a nice view off the parking garage. He wanted to look over the edge, so I picked him up so he could take a look and he noticed a bunch of cars below and he proceeded to count them -- all 12 of them! What a big boy Andrew is becoming!

Our first post-ceremony order of business was to got to the University Co-op on the Drag on the UT campus for our annual stock up on longhorn gear. We all got t-shirts and some other odds and ends before heading to EZs for lunch. Andrew was really excited about our new shirts ... he referred to them as "his Texas" all day long and he wanted to wear the shirt right away, in fact, he wanted all of us to wear our shirts right away. Andrew and Tyler are proud little longhorns!

After lunch we got back in the car and drove home -- thankfully both boys slept most of the way home! Even mommy got to take a cat nap (surprised?)! Saturday night Doug stayed home with the boys so that I could go to our friend Mandy's bachelorette party. We went to dinner and to a dessert place - it was great time with lots of girl talk :)

Today we laid low at the house all day trying to recover from our long day Saturday, plus the week ahead is going to be a busy one because Andrew is starting swimming lessons. and I will be traveling to Calgary on Wednesday through Friday. Andrew will go to swimming lessons everyday for 30 minutes for 2 weeks. I am really excited to see how he is going to react to the instructors. Douglas and I will be watching behind an observation area so Andrew will not be able to see us, and in theory, he will not be distracted by us. I will definitely be blogging about his progress.

While the boys were napping today Douglas and I watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (the 4th movie) and I have been flipping through book 6 (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). I am constantly amazed at how great the books are! After the movie ended I decided to do 8 minute abs since I was not able to do the video this morning. Douglas started by just sitting on the couch and critiquing my form - then he got a little closer and sat on the coffee table and told me everything I was doing wrong. Isn't he a funny guy! Then, to top it all off, when I finished my routine, Douglas was "sweet" enough to pour cold water on me from his water bottle to help me "cool off". No wonder I never work out with him! ***EDIT*** : For those of you who know Doug well, know that he was just being playful. We both actually had a good laugh about his critiques. Doug said I made his sound mean in the post and that was not my intent, so I wanted to edit to clarify that Douglas was just being Douglas -- silly and fun (if not just a little annoying too!)

When the boys woke up from their naps we all went to the pool. I needed to get my run in for the day, so I ran to the pool and ran home the long way pushing the jogging stroller and got a 3 mile run in ... and for those of you who may be wondering, no Douglas did not run - he rode his bike!
