Father's Day Photo

For 6 years running now, the boys and I have given Douglas a "Daddy" photo for Father's Day.

We love the tradition and we especially like to look back at the photos and the posts over the years.

Here is version 6.0 for the year 2010

Growing Up

My boys are growing up right before my very eyes!

Where there was once a toddler, there is now a big boy. Where there was once a big boy there is now a big kid. Every age keeps getting better and we are having so much fun. I love how independent they are, yet they still look up to us like we are heroes.

Check out my handsome guys ...

Young Love, Part 2

Andrew's school had a book fair this week and Doug met him in the library to help him pick out a couple of books. He brought three new books home, including a book called Pout Pout Fish.

This book is about a fish who wears a perpetual pout and "spreads the dreary wearies all over the place" -- that is until a sleek pretty fish surprises him with a kiss! Mr. Pout Pout realizes that he has been wrong all along, he is actually a kiss kiss fish!

Well, as we were reading the story tonight when we got to the page with the sleek, pretty fish, he said that he was the pout pout fish and that Sophia was the sleek pretty fish ... who, oh by the way, was about to kiss the pout pout fish!

I think Andrew has fallen pretty hard for sweet Sophia! Is it bad that I am already worried about her breaking his heart?

Young Love

The boys and girls in Andrew's class have been coupling up all school year. Yes, you read that right. Boyfriends and girlfriends in pre-K.

What does boyfriend/girlfriend mean in pre-k? From my observations, it really just means that Sally Sue's favorite boy in the class is Billy and that Billy's favorite girl is Sally Sue, for the moment at least.

Not all the pre-k kids were into the boyfriend/girlfriend thing though and up until April, Andrew didn't like to talk about the girls in his class. He would get very bashful if we asked him about Zoe any other little girls. He would make yucky faces while really trying to hide his embarrassment.

Well, that all changed at the end of March when Andrew started talking about a little girl named Sophia -- all the time. They are in class together and they are on the same t-ball team so they get to spend lots of time together. Well, last night Andrew told me a secret (forgive me for sharing this with the world, buddy!) ... he thinks Sophia is pretty and he likes her!

I was thrilled that Andrew would trust me with his secret (I was even told not to tell Daddy)! Well, tonight, Andrew told Daddy a secret too and Daddy was not supposed to tell me. Side bar, Andrew really needs to learn Mommy and Daddy don't keep secrets from each other.

So, are you ready for the big reveal?

Sophia asked Andrew to marry him and he said a resounding "ok!"

How sweet is that?

Out of the Mouths of Babes

First and foremost – if you are looking for some new photos. Stay tuned. In the mean time, look here. I accidentally posted these to my “crappy” blog instead of here.

We love music at the Moore house and while we sing a lot of the traditional children’s songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Old McDonald, etc) we love grooving in the car (or dancing in the living room) to hip, in the now, music. Blacked Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Lady Ga Ga are just a sampling of what is on my playlist and of course, they are also all over top 40 radio.

Most of these songs move to fast for the boys to pick up many of the words, other than the chorus, but they love the fast, loud songs. They refer to "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas as “Gotta Get That” because that is a one of the lines in the songs that they can actually understand.

In fact, Andrew will often start singing the words to a song and then finish the part he doesn't know with "something something something." It is only a matter of time until he starts making up words like his mom!

Well, also on my playlist is Jaimee Fox’s song, “Blame it on the Alcohol” and it so happens that it comes on just after some of the more upbeat, fun, fast songs. I normally hit the ‘next’ button to move to the next song, but it didn’t take long for Andrew to start trying to sing the chorus, namely, “Blame it on the a-a-a-a-alcohol”. I quickly explained to him that he shouldn’t sing that song because I would have been mortified if he tried to sing it at school! He was ok with that and he even refers to it now as the “bad” song, which really means, the one we are not supposed to sing.

Well, we were out and about this weekend in the Mustang and were rocking out to my playlist, enjoying the wind in our hair in the convertible. At some point during our trip, "Blame it on the Alcohol" started and just as we were picking up the iPod to change it to the next song Andrew started singing, “Blame it on the a-a-a-a …”

I was not very happy because he knows we don’t like that song, but before I could say anything, he finished his sentence … “Blame it on the a-a-a-a apple juice.” I couldn’t help but laugh and then Tyler quickly joined in too.

Brotherly Love

Andrew and Tyler have been playing together more than ever and it is so neat to see them becoming such great friends – when they aren’t tattling, hitting /pushing (by “accident” of course!), stealing toys, or generally doing things to make one another cry. What is so interesting to me is that they play better together (e.g. less fighting) when Mom and Dad are not in direct ear shot (or at least they think we aren’t!).

For example, when they play in the backyard together, Douglas and I have all of the blinds open and usually keep the door/windows open so that we can easily hear them. They can usually play in the backyard for an hour without any squabbles. Tears are sometimes still shed, but usually because someone falls down and skins a knee rather than due to bratty behavior.

In fact, we normally have to be careful because they like to scheme and come up with things they should NOT be doing, like playing with sticks, trying to climb the crepe myrtles, turning on the water hose or jumping off of things they should not.

They particularly enjoy sleeping in each other’s rooms right now too – who didn’t love a sleep over growing up? We normally only allow them to sleep in the same room (usually Tyler’s because of the bunk beds) on weekends because they talk and generally keep each other up far too late for school nights. Of note, they never argue when they are playing in their rooms, especially not at night. Why? Probably because they know they are not supposed to be up in the first place!

A couple of weeks ago they took late naps in the afternoon on Saturday, so Douglas let them stay up later than usual (and have brownies for dinner, but I digress). I was having a girl’s night out so I was not home at bed time. I got home around 11:00-something and they were still awake. I kissed them goodnight and told them to wrap it up and call it a night and I went to bed. Well, apparently, Douglas had to go upstairs at least two more times and as late as 1:00 am to get them to finally go to sleep. I am shocked he didn’t separate them, which would have ensured immediate sleep and would have guaranteed that they would sleep in Sunday morning. See, Andrew tends to wake up Tyler when he goes to the bathroom in the morning if they are in the same room and rather than going back to sleep, they end up playing quietly until a more sane hour (they don’t even ask to come downstairs until after 8 am!)

Well, Sunday night rolls around and I gave them the sad news that no, they would not be sleeping in the same room, it is a school night after all. We did our goodnight routine and went downstairs to get ready for the week. Sure enough, 30 or more minutes later we (read Doug because I am sure I had fallen asleep on the couch) heard talking.

This in and of itself is not unusual because both boys talk/sing to themselves on occasion to fall asleep, but usually there is not a conversation happening. Douglas asked me to take care of business, so I went upstairs to find Tyler sitting with Andrew on Andrew’s bed reading books with only Andrew’s nightstand light on. I think I caught them off guard and I sternly told Tyler to get to his room. He obliged but yet again 15 minutes later Douglas heard talking. This time Douglas went upstairs to find Andrew talking to Tyler in Tyler’s room. Apparently, Andrew felt the need to talk to Tyler about why Mommy was so upset before. Gah!

In other news, we took the boys to see How to Tame Your Dragon this weekend and they loved it. I love going with them to the drive-in. It is just great family fun!

The boys are also taking weekly swim lessons to get ready for this summer. I am looking forward to the unseasonably cool weather to warm up a touch more to the perfect pool weather temps. I can’t wait to take the boys to the pool this summer!

Happy Birthday, Tyler

Happiest birthday wishes to my baby boy. I can't believe that you are 3 years old today. It seems like just yesterday we were bringing you home from the hospital. You were the absolute perfect addition to our family and you bring such joy and happiness into our lives. We are so blessed by your precious smile, daring attitude and adorable Texas twang. I am so proud of the big boy that you are becoming and the little gentleman you already are.

Happy Birthday, sweet baby!
