Getting back on the bike

Andrew got a big boy bike for his birthday and he loves it! He has practically disowned his tricycle now. When I asked him if he wanted to ride his bike yesterday he was very specific about which bike he wanted to ride -- and for that matter, which he did not want to ride!

As we were leaving the house to go for a ride around the block Sunday evening, Andrew was coasting down the driveway slope into the street and he lost control of his bike and fell over. Douglas and I both saw what was about to happen but we were just out of reach to prevent it. He was wearing his helmet and he didn't get any bumps or bruises, just a little surprised at the tumble. I am so proud of my big guy ... he cried for a minute and we explained that falling down is just a part of riding your bike and that is why it is so important to wear a helmet, etc. and then without hesitation, he got right back on his back. Our next lesson for Andrew is to learn how to use his brakes!
