Learning to count

This story is too cute not to share ...

Each night we read the Very Hungry Catepillar to Andrew before bed. He just loves the story. One of the reasons that we like it is because it is a pretty fast read (I know, I know ... that is not a good reason), but we also like that it includes some counting so we can work with Andrew on identifying how many objects (in this case it is fruit) are on each page and so forth. In addition, we have been showing Andrew how to count on his fingers (i.e. showing his pointer finger to show "1" and his pointer finger and middle finger to show "2" and so on).

Well, as you may or may not know, children have a hard time getting their fingers to stay down to show numbers, especailly the numbers two and three. Since Andrew is 2 years old we have been practicing this one a lot and he really wants to get it right. At first, he would show us "2" and it would more like "4" because he couldn't get his other fingers to cooperate. However, lately, in order to get his fingers to cooperate he has been working with each finger one at a time saying things like "stay down" or "go down" to his ring and pinky fingers and telling his pointer and middle fingers to "go up". It is the cutest thing ... and it actually works (for a minute at least!).

In other news, Tyler is still doing great. He seems to be enjoy the walks we take outside each day. Our first walk on Tuesday I had to stop a lot to give him his pacifier, etc., but each day thereafter he has been more and more relaxed. In fact today, I didn't have to stop at all. I guess he has figured out that mommy is going to make him go on these walks, so he might as well enjoy them!

I can't believe that another week has passed already! We are thinking about going to the Carnival and Livestock show with the boys this weekend, and if we do I will be sure to take lots of photos and to post an update next week. Have a great weekend!
