View from our room:
Up until yesterday the world's 59th largest yacht, Apoise, was parked right outside our room. Link to photo of the yacht for those who might be interested: http://yachts.monacoeye.com/yachtsbysize/pages/apoise12.html
Our trip to Los Angeles went off without a hitch. The boys were great travelers - they were patient at the airport while we waited for the plane and they were perfect on the plane! Andrew was very aware we were on an airplane this trip (he was not so aware on our trip to Italy) and the process was very exciting for him. He enjoyed looking out the window, especially as we were taking off and landing. He told me "airplanes fly in the sky" and "we are going up / down". He loved looking at the airplanes at the airport too. He spent most of the flight watching Finding Nemo and Toy Story, so I must say that I am very thankful for the invention of portable dvd players. There was an in-flight movie too - The Cleaner, I think?, with Cedric the Entertainer that was cheesy, but helped to pass the time for the adults. The only hiccup we experienced was Andrew wetting his pants (through his diaper), but thankfully I had a change of clothes in the diaper bag. Andrew even ate the breaded chicken sandwich that Continental served. I on the other hand enjoyed a Frescetta sandwich from Wendy's that we picked up before boarding the plane. It was actually really good and I was happy to be able to eat something healthy at a fast food place.
We checked 8 items curbside including 2 car seats but not including the stroller which was checked at the gate. In addition, we had 6 carry on bags -- the sky cap, rental car bus driver and bell man at the hotel all earned their tips! Having Kate (aka Mom Mom - Doug's Mom) with us was a HUGE help!
After arriving in LA, we got our bags and went to rent our car, an Expedition. It is the perfect size for us (3 adults and 2 children) and all of our bags. I am really glad that I decided to go with a "Premium SUV" instead of a "Full Size" because I think we would have been uncomfortable. Put it this way, the ride to the airport in Doug's Explorer was pretty tight! Anyhow, we got our car and jumped on the 405 for San Diego. About 2.5 hours later we arrived at the hotel thanks to our handy dandy GPS unit that we brought from home. The boys were great in the car too -- Tyler literally slept the entire time and Andrew just chatted with us. We were hoping he would take a nap, but that was a no go.
Wednesday night we had dinner with Allie and her family at her parent's home. It was wonderful! Baked ziti, artichoke and red pepper fettuccine, garlic bread and a delicious fresh salad with home made balsamic dressing. Yummy! Andrew actually fell asleep on the way to dinner and slept upstairs in Allie's room the entire time. Tyler slept through dinner, but woke up afterwards to everyone's delight.
We didn't make it back to the hotel and get settled into bed until after 11:00 or so, which was 1:00 a.m. Texas time. It was a long day, especially since we were all up late packing the night before, but no complaints because it was a good day. We are happy to be in sunny and breezy California!
